Assoenologi joins Wine in Moderation as partner

PRESS RELEASE - Brussels, 28/01/2026 – Wine in Moderation is pleased to announce that Assoenologi, the Italian association of oenologists and oenological technicians, has joined the programme as an official Partner, marking an important milestone for both the initiative and the wider wine sector.

Assoenologi is the first professional association of oenologists to join Wine in Moderation as a Partner, sending a strong signal of leadership and responsibility from one of the world’s most influential wine-producing countries. This partnership further illustrates how the wine sector continues to come together around shared values of moderation, responsibility, and sustainability.

Founded in 1891, Assoenologi represents thousands of professionals working across the Italian wine value chain. By joining Wine in Moderation, the association reinforces the central role that oenologists play not only in quality and innovation, but also in shaping a balanced and responsible wine culture through science-based information, education, and sustainability.

“Having Assoenologi join Wine in Moderation as a Partner is a strong signal,” said Sandro Sartor, President of Wine in Moderation. “Oenologists play a central role in shaping the quality, and identity of wine. Their engagement further strengthens the credibility of our programme and reinforces the importance of responsibility as an integral part of excellence in the wine sector.”

“Assoenologi's entry into Wine in Moderation represents a significant cultural and professional step. Winemakers are not only custodians of the quality and identity of wine, but also responsible for its evolution in its relationship with society. Joining this program strengthens our commitment to a wine culture based on knowledge, awareness, and respect, placing people, science, and sustainability at the centre. Moderation is not a limitation, but a value that exalts wine as an expression of terroir, history, and conviviality” said Riccardo Cotarella, President of Assoenologi. He continued “As Assoenologi, we feel a duty to actively contribute to the dissemination of accurate messages, based on scientific data and education, so that wine continues to be perceived for what it is: a cultural heritage to be experienced with balance and responsibility. This collaboration goes precisely in this direction and strengthens Italy's role as an international benchmark for wine quality and culture.”

Through this partnership, Assoenologi will support the dissemination of Wine in Moderation principles among its members, contribute to education and awareness initiatives, and help promote a responsible approach to wine consumption that respects both tradition and evolving societal expectations.

The collaboration further strengthens Wine in Moderation’s presence in Italy, where National Coordinators, Ambassador Companies, professional associations, and interbranch organisations are increasingly aligned around a common vision for a sustainable wine culture.

With Assoenologi joining as Partner, Wine in Moderation continues to expand its network across the wine value chain, reinforcing the role of professionals in delivering responsible enjoyment and ensuring that moderation remains an integral part of wine culture worldwide.
