German Wine Academy hosts event on alcoholic beverages and health communication

On 24 March 2026, German Wine Academy (DWA), in cooperation with the DLR Mosel, brought together scientific and sectors perspectives to explore current discussions around alcoholic beverages and health.

Nicolai Worm, renowned nutritionist, presented the background of the World Health Organization’s “No Safe Level” message and its interpretation at national level, including by the German Nutrition Society. He also referred to recent scientific analyses contributing to the ongoing discussion in this area.

Building on this, Kristian Rett addressed broader considerations related to how scientific evidence is generated, interpreted, and communicated.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of clear and balanced communication towards consumers. In this context, Florian Koch, representing the German Wine Institute, introduced the sector’s efforts to support informed understanding and choices.

As part of these efforts, he introduced the DWI’s new Quick Facts flyer, which provides concise, evidence-based information in an accessible format. The tool includes QR codes linking to further resources developed by the DWA.

The event underlined the importance of science-based dialogue and the need to support consumers with clear and accessible information. The event underlined the importance of science-based dialogue and the need to support consumers with clear and accessible information.
