Wine in Moderation celebrates a year of milestones and global impact in annual report

The Wine in Moderation Association proudly reflects on its accomplishments in 2024 with the launch of its annual report, showcasing significant progress in promoting a culture of responsible wine consumption worldwide.
The report was presented during a reception organised in Brussels on 29 January in the presence of EU officials and Wine in Moderation members and stakeholders. As highlighted by the President of the Association during the reception, 2024 was a landmark year, marked by the expansion of the initiative's reach to new regions, the implementation of impactful educational programs, and the recognition of Wine in Moderation as a leader in the sector.
Global expansion and collective impact
Wine in Moderation welcomed several new members in 2024, including the Association of Gardeners, Grape Growers and Winemakers of Ukraine, as well as the prestigious Italian consortia representing Tutela della Denominazione di Origine Controllata Prosecco and Pinot Grigio delle Venezie. This growth reinforces the Association's commitment to fostering a collaborative global network.
Key figures from 2024 include:
- 16 National Coordinators across Europe and South America.
- 5 Ambassador Companies, representing leading wine businesses.
- 24 Partners spanning the wine value chain.
- Nearly 3,000 registered WiM Supporters, united in their commitment to moderation.
Together, these stakeholders have helped Wine in Moderation reach millions, both professionals and consumers, advancing its mission to educate the sector about the importance of moderation.
Recognition for leadership
Wine in Moderation’s efforts were celebrated in 2024, earning it the title of “Organization of the Year” by Portugal's leading wine magazine and receiving recognition from the Cork Sector in Spain for its unwavering dedication to promoting responsible wine consumption.
Education and scientific integrity
Education remained central to the Association's activities:
- Over 22,500 professionals were trained through 8,400 sessions, ensuring that wine sector stakeholders are equipped to champion responsible consumption.
- The Wine in Moderation Responsible Service Training program made significant strides, with national adaptations and plans to launch an online version soon.
Scientific integrity also played a key role. The Association supported the Wine Information Council as it laid the groundwork for the second “Lifestyle, Diet, Wine, and Health Congress” set to take place in Rome in 2025. It will once again be an opportunity for the international scientific community to get together to present the latest scientific evidence about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, combining information on maintaining an active lifestyle, a balanced Mediterranean-style diet and a moderate consumption of wine.
Communication and campaigns
In 2024, Wine in Moderation introduced tailored action packages for its members and supporters, focusing on themes like responsible communication and wine tourism. The Association also implemented over 450 communication activities, reaching more than 1.2 million wine consumers globally.
A standout moment was the celebration of the second International Wine in Moderation Day on November 8th. Centered around the global campaign, “The greatest wine? The one that you’ll remember” the event highlighted the joy, culture, conviviality and social connection that wine brings when enjoyed thoughtfully and responsibly.
Looking to the future
Reflecting on 2024, the President of Wine in Moderation expressed gratitude for the growing global commitment to the initiative. “Every day, new actors across the wine value chain join the Wine in Moderation family, affirming the relevance of our mission. Together, we are building a future where the enjoyment of wine is synonymous with balance, care, and sustainability.”
