As National Coordinator of Wine in Moderation in Germany, the German Wine Academy (DWA) is responsible for implementing the initiative in the country. Through its activities, the DWA promotes responsible wine consumption by communicating both the risks of excessive consumption and the importance of moderation, while also highlighting the cultural value and enjoyment of wine.

A key part of the programme is the engagement of wine companies and organisations through the WiM Supporter status. New Supporters receive a welcome package with information about the initiative, together with a certificate demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility. They can also order additional Wine in Moderation materials and promotional items designed to support conversations around responsible wine consumption.

Today, more than 1,600 wine producers across all sectors of the German wine industry are part of the programme.

Training and education are also central to the German implementation of the programme. The DWA provides training for wine professionals on topics including alcohol-related health effects, legal frameworks, responsible communication and moderate consumption guidelines. These educational materials are widely used in vocational wine schools and complemented by lectures and presentations across the sector.

By combining education, awareness raising and sector engagement, the German programme provides a practical example of how Wine in Moderation can be implemented at national level.
