Wine in Moderation in practice: The Spanish Wine Federation example
As National Coordinator of Wine in Moderation in Spain, the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) promotes a culture of moderation, responsibility and sustainability across the Spanish wine sector. This commitment is underpinned by a clear self-regulation scheme that guides collective action and ensures consistent implementation of responsible practices throughout the industry. All FEV members—more than 950 wineries—are WiM Supporters, reinforcing a shared sector-wide commitment to responsible wine consumption.
As the main point of contact for wineries, FEV provides a Welcome Kit designed to help members integrate Wine in Moderation principles into their day-to-day activities. In 2025, FEV also coordinated the launch of Responsible Service Training in Spain, equipping wine and hospitality professionals with practical tools to encourage responsible consumption and good service practices. As an example of its outreach activities, during the latest WiM Day FEV announced a collaboration with The Wine Studio and The Human Studio, extending the programme’s reach to new professionals and individuals interested in wine culture.
Education, science, and consumer communication remain strategic priorities, alongside strong cooperation across the sector. For this reason, FEV works closely with the Spanish Wine Interprofessional Organisation (OIVE) and the Wine and Nutrition Research Foundation (FIVIN) to implement the programme and engage audiences across the wine value chain.
FIVIN strengthens the programme’s scientific pillar through initiatives such as La ciencia del vino y salud, an online platform that disseminates evidence-based information on wine and health. Meanwhile, OIVE leads consumer communication efforts, including the recent launch of the “Vida con Moderación” campaign, which surpassed 4 million YouTube views in its first months.
Through the combined efforts of wineries, organisations, and scientific partners, Spain demonstrates how Wine in Moderation can be translated into concrete cooperation and structured self-regulation at national level, fostering a more responsible, informed, and sustainable wine culture.
